But how welcome this pure H2O is when we think of the last expanses of water we have polluted.

When I was young ( I am 89 years old now) we were careful in using the water. The water had to be drawn from a well invariably very deep. This water was used for domestic purposes. Bathing, washing clothes etc was done in the nearby river or in a huge kulam (pond).

Hello RC, I was directed to your blog from your Daughter. Thanks her for me. I am suprised how much our living has been alike even though we live so very very far away from each other. I live in New york in the northern part of the USA while California is in the Southern part of USA. You may already know this.
I also grew up with a deep well for pumping water and a wash tub and scrub board for washing clothes. I still have a deep well today, but have an electric pump now to bring up the water from my well. I have the electris washer and dryer today, but still like my out doors clothes line for drying somethings.
When I was small, my Dad also had an old car simular to your Dad`s, except it had a hard top. Hope your Dad`s hands healed well from those burns.
Keep posting. I truly enjoy reading your posts.
